Speaking during a church service yesterday, Ruto said Kenya is on a
transformative path and all signs show major sectors of the economy are
responding well.
He urged the church to pray for Kenya and leaders to lead
the nation in the path of prosperity.
“I have great confidence in the future of Kenya, our economy, health and
education were not doing very well but God has healed our economy,” Ruto said.
“I am confident that it is possible to move Kenya from third-world status to
first-world before I die, it is possible. Others have done it, we can too do
it.”
“Who said Kenya cannot move from third-world to first-world in 30 years.”
He said his administration is keen on implementing at least four flagship
projects, like the Rironi–Maai Mahiu–Nakuru superhighway that was launched
last week.
“We will have four or six major highways in the coming year,” he said.
Economists, however, note that achieving such a milestone will require
consistent political stability, prudent management of public debt and
sustained growth above current levels.
Still, Ruto maintained that the country’s trajectory is promising.
The President also called for special prayers for the newly elected
leaders during the Thursday’s by-elections as well as serving leaders.
According to the President, only God can direct their steps to lead the country on the path of prosperity.
“This week we had elections of leaders, we thank God the
exercise is concluded. Pray for these who have been elected and those of us who
have the privilege to serve so that together we can forge ahead and do the will
of God for our people,” Ruto said.
The head of state spoke when he attended a church service at
AIC, Milimani in Nairobi.
Ruto also used the occasion to encourage the youths who have
attained age 25 years to consider getting married arguing that is the only way
to be responsible.
The President said young people should not shy away from
commitment, noting that family formation plays an important role in social and
economic development.
“I keep encouraging young people to get married, I got
married to Rachael when I was 25 years. I am told today 25 years is such a young age,” Ruto said.
“I tell you to get married, that is how you will be responsible.”
