A major development by GulfCap Real Estate has been recognized with the Best Affordable Housing Project of the Year Award, underscoring its role in reshaping urban living and expanding access to quality housing in Kenya.

Buxton Point received the accolade from the Kenya Professional Realtors Association (KPRA) during the 7th Real Estate Awards and Recognition Dinner held at the Trademark Hotel, Village Market, Nairobi.

The annual awards celebrate excellence, innovation, and professionalism in the property sector, and this recognition positions Buxton Point among the country’s leading housing initiatives.

The Sh6 billion development is the first large-scale affordable housing project to be completed and delivered in Mombasa. Phase 1 saw the construction of 584 units, all of which have been handed over to their owners.

The handover marked a significant achievement for both the developer and the Mombasa County administration, given the project’s size, its complex execution, and the transformation it has introduced in the area.

The site, once dominated by aging units and an overstretched housing layout, has now been redeveloped into a modern residential community that includes improved infrastructure, upgraded public spaces, and amenities that were previously unavailable in the neighbourhood.

For many residents, the project represents not just a new home but a renewed sense of dignity and belonging.

Phase 2 of the project is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion next year.

The second phase is expected to further revitalise the neighbourhood by adding more residential units, modern infrastructure, and expanded community facilities.

The overall master plan includes amenities such as a swimming pool, basketball court, football pitch, landscaped green spaces, and a children’s playground—features designed to promote community living and improve quality of life.

“This prestigious recognition affirms GulfCap’s unwavering commitment to developing quality homes, sustainable communities, and meaningful socio-economic opportunities for families across Kenya,” said GulfCap Real Estate General Manager Benard Ojwaya after receiving the award.

Ojwaya said the success of Buxton Point reflects the collective effort of GulfCap’s internal teams, consultants, contractors, partners, and the homeowners who have embraced the company’s vision of modern, inclusive urban living.

He noted that beyond providing affordable homes, the project has driven job creation, supported local businesses, and enhanced living standards for hundreds of families.

He added that GulfCap will continue prioritizing developments that uphold dignity, safety, and long-term community wellbeing through projects such as Buxton Point, Starehe Point, and LV Marina.

“Each project is designed with the understanding that well-built, inclusive housing is the foundation of thriving cities and empowered communities,” he said.

GulfCap Real Estate CEO Chris Ochieng’ thanked the stakeholders who supported the project from inception to completion.

He acknowledged the role played by government agencies, financiers, consultants, and local communities in enabling the delivery of the project’s phases.

“As the company looks ahead, it remains committed to expanding access to quality housing, setting new standards in urban development, and building communities that inspire growth and opportunity,” said Ochieng’.
