Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has called for calm and restraint across the counties where by-elections are being held today.
This comes as voters in Ugunja Constituency turned out for Thursday’s by-election, praising the peaceful manner in which polls commenced across the area.
Speaking after casting his vote at Luanda Polling Centre, Wandayi commended residents for maintaining order since voting began at 6 am.
Wandayi further lauded security agencies and local leadership for working together to ensure a smooth process, urging residents to seize the opportunity to exercise their democratic right.

“A lot of talking has happened over many months. The hour of reckoning has come. Everyone who is a registered voter should come out and vote before 5pm so their vote can count,” he added.
The CS expressed confidence in the newly constituted IEBC, praising its management of the polls so far.
“We must commend the IEBC Chairman There can be no 100% perfection, but the process has been credible so far. Kenyans should give the IEBC space and time to execute its constitutional mandate instead of harassing the commission,” he said.
Wandayi also addressed reports of violence in Kasipul Constituency, terming the incidents worrying and calling on all leaders to demonstrate restraint.

“I have heard about Kasipul. It is a matter of concern to all of us. I appeal for calm everywhere. Elections cannot be a matter of life and death. Let leaders of all political persuasions lead by example,” he said.
He reminded contestants that only one winner can emerge from any poll, urging those who lose to accept results peacefully.
“In Ugunja, ODM will win, that’s certain. But even those who lose have another chance next time. Let voters cast their ballots without intimidation, and let the will of the people be respected,” he said.
