A manhunt is underway after police recovered 20 kilograms of cannabis sativa in the Tasia Mabatini area of Embakasi on Friday, November 20.

Officers from the Embakasi Police Station carried out a targeted operation at a house linked to a suspect, where they discovered the drugs.

In a statement, the National Police Service said the suspect remains at large while authorities intensify efforts to trace and apprehend him.

The seized drugs have been secured at the police station, pending further investigations.

"Yesterday, officers from the Embakasi Police Station conducted an operation in the Tasia Mabatini area," the statement read.

"During the operation, a search was carried out at a house linked to a suspect. Officers recovered 20 kilograms of cannabis sativa and 500 rolls of the substance, with an estimated street value of Sh500,000."

The police commended the officers for their vigilance, highlighting the ongoing commitment to curbing narcotics and other forms of crime across the city.

"This operation comes a day after law enforcement officers in Lamu County carried out a similar crackdown," the statement added.

In Lamu, police in Mpeketoni, following a nationwide directive to curb illegal drug distribution, recovered four large rolls of cannabis from a property in Sefu Village, Bomani.

A female suspect was arrested during the operation and taken to Mpeketoni Police Station, where she awaits arraignment.

The seized evidence was secured at the station.

Authorities emphasised that these efforts are part of a larger strategy to protect communities from the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.

The police urged members of the public to support ongoing operations by reporting suspicious activities.

"The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to combating the distribution of illegal substances and dismantling the networks involved in the trade," the statement read.

These consecutive operations highlight intensified efforts by Kenyan police to address narcotics-related challenges, which continue to pose a threat to public safety and security.

Nairobi and other urban centres have increasingly become targets for the distribution of cannabis and other illicit substances, prompting enhanced surveillance, intelligence gathering, and coordinated raids.

Police continue to call on communities to remain vigilant and work closely with law enforcement to report suspicious activities, helping safeguard the safety and security of neighbourhoods nationwide.
