In a major blow to the narcotics trade, a multi-agency team has apprehended two individuals in Naivasha and seized a large consignment of bhang with an estimated street value of over Sh2 million.
The Tuesday operation, led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in collaboration with the National Police Service (NPS), targeted a suspected drug den, uncovering a packaging hub.
Authorities confirmed the arrests, describing the operation as a key step against large-scale drug trafficking.
The raid recovered cannabis sativa (bhang) packaged in various forms, including stones, tariffs, sacks, and rolls.
NACADA CEO, Anthony Omerikwa, issued a stern warning to those involved in illicit drug activities, particularly targeting youth during school holidays.
“To those who seek to exploit school holidays to peddle drugs and endanger our children, your days are numbered,” Omerikwa said.
“This operation sends a clear message: we are acting decisively to protect the next generation.”
The Naivasha operation forms part of the nationwide Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) against drugs and illicit alcohol, launched under the directive of the Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen.
The initiative has intensified coordination among security and anti-narcotics units, resulting in increased arrests and seizures across the country.
A NACADA statement highlighted that the operation was a direct result of “renewed multi-agency vigour under the Rapid Results Initiative, leveraging intelligence to dismantle networks from the top down.”
The two individuals are currently in custody, and the case has been handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
