Parts of the country will experience continued rainfall this week, according to the latest seven-day forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department.

According to the department, the forecast covers the period from November 4 to November 10.

The rains are expected to continue in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, the southeastern lowlands, and northeastern Kenya.

Kenya Met said daytime temperatures are expected to remain high in parts of the Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern Kenya, where maximum temperatures of above 30°C are likely.

Some areas in the Southeastern lowlands and the Highlands west of the Rift Valley may also experience similar high temperatures.

Nighttime temperatures, however, are expected to fall below 10°C in parts of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and regions near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

In the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, mornings will see sunny intervals, though rain may occur in isolated places.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected in a few areas early in the week, increasing to several areas as the week progresses.

Nights will generally be partly cloudy, with chances of showers in some locations.

Northwestern Kenya will experience sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy nights.

However, morning rains and isolated showers may occur later in the week. In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, mornings will be cloudy with occasional rains.

Afternoon showers are expected to increase later in the forecast period.

Northeastern Kenya, the southeastern lowlands, and the coast are likely to receive morning, afternoon, and night showers in a few areas.

Some of these showers may spread to more locations towards the end of the week.

A review of the previous week shows that rainfall was recorded in most parts of the country. Heavy rainfall was observed in Machakos, Kitui, Kilifi, Isiolo and Murang’a.

The highest weekly rainfall was recorded at ADC Japata in Trans Nzoia, which received 184mm. Kivingoni in Machakos recorded 130mm in 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department has advised the public and county authorities to continue monitoring daily updates.

Heavy rains experienced recently triggered landslides, flash floods, and widespread destruction leaving people dead and dozens displaced.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration said the ongoing October–November–December short rains have caused “tragic loss of life, injuries, and destruction of property” in multiple counties.
