Detectives in Nairobi are investigating an incident in which a man allegedly attacked his girlfriend before setting their house on fire in the Kasarani area on Wednesday evening, October 29, 2025.
According to police reports, the woman, identified as 21-year-old Yvone Munywoki, was reportedly attacked with an axe during a domestic dispute.
Police said a relative of the woman had raised the alarm after receiving a distress call from her, claiming that the man had turned violent.
Officers rushed to the scene and found the house locked from the inside as the woman screamed for help. Moments later, smoke began billowing from the house, prompting police and residents to break in, Nairobi Police Commander George Seda said.
Inside, officers found the two lying on the bed with visible injuries and bloodstains on the floor. They were taken to hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead on arrival.
The man was admitted in serious condition and is under police guard pending recovery and further questioning.
Preliminary police findings indicate the man may have attempted to take his own life after the attack. Investigators said the woman’s clothes had also been set on fire.
The woman’s body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy as investigations continue.
In a separate incident along the Mombasa Highway in Kibwezi, police recovered the body of a 32-year-old man identified as Jamal Akbar.
The body, which had a deep cut on the back of the head, was discovered off the road by a traffic police officer. Police said the man had been reported missing two days earlier. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Meanwhile, in Igembe, Meru County, police arrested two suspects in connection with the death of 35-year-old Jeremiah Mwenda, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an assault.
Elsewhere in Iten Town, Elgeyo Marakwet County, police are investigating the death of 43-year-old Josephat Okello, whose body was found outside a bank on Thursday.
Police said the man appeared to have vomited blood before his death, though the cause has not yet been established.
The body was taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.
