Police in Bungoma County are investigating the death of a 70-year-old man whose decomposed body was discovered in his house in Sirisia after a suspected murder.

According to reports, the deceased, identified as Juma Wanjekeche, was found lying in a pool of blood inside his semi-permanent house.

Police said preliminary observations indicated that his throat had been slit.

Residents told police that Wanjekeche was last seen alive on October 26, and his body was discovered two days later after neighbours raised concern about a foul smell coming from the house.

Officers from Sirisia Police Station visited the scene and confirmed that the body was already decomposing.

The motive for the killing remains unknown, and no arrests had been made by the time of reporting.

The body was moved to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.

In a separate incident, police in Shauri slums, Embu County, have launched investigations into the death of a 35-year-old man whose body was also found in his house under unclear circumstances.

The deceased, identified as Mugendi Ciangai, reportedly lived alone in a single room and was last seen on October 26, 2025.

A neighbour told police he became alarmed after noticing blood trickling from the upper section of the deceased’s house. When he went to check, he found Ciangai’s lifeless body lying on the floor, partly covered with a mattress.

Police said the body was already partially decomposed when it was discovered. It was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Detectives said no arrests had been made but that they were following crucial leads.

Meanwhile, police in Magadi, Kajiado County, are pursuing a suspect linked to the killing of a 28-year-old woman who was attacked on her farm.

The woman, identified as Magret Muriithi, was reportedly assaulted by an unknown assailant while tending her farm on October 29. She succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the hospital.

Police said the suspect fled the scene after the attack. A manhunt has since been launched as detectives continue to gather information that could lead to his arrest. The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Police statistics indicate that murder cases have been on the rise across the country, with several incidents reported daily.

Authorities have linked most cases to domestic conflicts, land disputes, and love triangles.

According to investigators, at least eight murder incidents are reported each day nationwide.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) homicide unit has deployed a special team to handle such cases, some of which remain unresolved, while others are before the courts.
