An honorary military parade staged at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County set the tone for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, with disciplined formations and patriotic displays adding color and prestige to the national event.
The parade began moments after President William Ruto arrived at the stadium, signaling the official kickoff of the festivities.
The Head of State made his entrance in a unique open-roof presidential vehicle, standing and waving to hundreds of Kenyans who had flocked to the venue from early morning.

The President then inspected the parade, paying respect to the military personnel before greeting dignitaries, including foreign leaders and senior government officials.
The Kenya Defence Forces had earlier staged an entry march into the stadium, showcasing the full breadth of the country’s military strength.
Dressed in colorful uniforms, the three wings of the defence forces—the Army, Navy, and Air Force—moved in synchronised formations that captured the discipline and precision of the armed forces.
Each contingent stood at attention in the middle of the field, their uniforms—red, white, and blue—painting a striking patriotic picture.
The formal parade began with the Air Force leading the march along the stadium runway.

The Kenya Army followed in red ceremonial attire, their steps firm and commanding, while the Navy, dressed in deep blue, brought the march to a disciplined close.
Adding to the spectacle, other security personnel, including the Kenya Police Service, joined the parade, with senior officers saluting the Commander-in-Chief.
A notable addition to this year’s march was the mounted police unit, whose officers rode on horseback as they proudly saluted President Ruto.
Trumpets and drums from the band accompanied the march with patriotic tunes, echoing across the stadium.
The honorary march underscored the significance of Mashujaa Day, which commemorates Kenya’s heroes—both the freedom fighters who resisted colonial rule and the men and women who continue to serve the nation with dedication.
