Preparation at JKIA ahead of Raila's body arrival

Preparations are underway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ahead of the arrival of the body of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.

A military gun carriage has already arrived at the airport, accompanied by members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) military band.

The officers were seen polishing the tyres of the gun carriage to ensure it gleamed as brightly as possible before the arrival.

The military band, fully dressed in ceremonial uniform, stood in formation beside the runway, rehearsing slow, solemn tunes to accompany the official reception.

Their discipline and attention to detail reflected the significance of the occasion as the country awaits the return of one of its most respected statesmen.

Security has been intensified around JKIA, with multiple police and military checkpoints set up along the main routes leading to the airport.

Members of the public have been blocked from accessing the main entrance to prevent commotion, while those who have gathered outside the airport are being held at a distance under close watch by security personnel.

Crowds have started forming outside the perimeter fence, where many are waiting patiently to witness the convoy that will escort the body.

Inside the airport, military officers are making final arrangements for the arrival of Raila's body. The area around the VIP terminal has been cleared, and a red carpet has been laid out in preparation for the official reception.

Several leaders and senior government officials have already arrived at JKIA, waiting for the arrival of the body, which is expected to touch down at 9:30 a.m.

Security teams have coordinated movements to ensure that the event proceeds smoothly and with the dignity befitting a state figure.

President William Ruto and Ida Odinga are expected to lead the reception once the aircraft carrying the remains lands.

The body will be received with full military honours before being placed on the gun carriage for transport to Lee Funeral Home under tight security.

Military officers will remain stationed at JKIA throughout the morning as the nation observes one of the most closely followed arrivals in Kenya’s history.
