Suspect Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi arraigned at Kibera law court on October 14, 2025/JAMES GICHIGI

Fresh details have emerged in court detailing how a man, allegedly armed with two traditional spears, fatally attacked a police officer guarding a section of the State House in Nairobi.

The suspect, Kithuka Kimunyi Musyimi, appeared before the Kibra Law Courts on Tuesday, where police sought to detain him for 14 days to allow further investigations.

He is accused of targeting a security officer attached to General Service Unit (GSU) manning State House Gate D along Dennis Pritt Road in what prosecutors described as an unusual and deadly assault.

According to court documents filed by the investigating officer, Inspector Bashir Boya, Musyimi was armed with a bow and spear.

"The respondent, who was armed with a bow and arrows that he had concealed in a blue sack, posing as a street dweller, advanced towards the GSU officer manning the search barrier, one Ramadhan Khamisi," court documents state.

“He threw two spears; the second one got to the officer Ramadhan, after which they were able to apprehend the suspect,” Boya testified.

The officer was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life. The court further heard that key investigations are still pending.

It is on this basis that the prosecution sought 14 custodial days to advance their probe.

This includes the retrieval of CCTV footage, a mental assessment of the suspect, forensic analysis of the recovered spears, and scrutiny of the suspect’s phone records to establish whether he acted alone or had accomplices.

The motive of the incident also remains unknown at the time.

The court directed that the suspect be held until October 28, 2025, while investigations continue.

Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi further ordered that Musyimi, who told the court he had an issue with his leg, be taken to Mbagathi Hospital for medical treatment. Notably, drawing attention was his physical condition.

The suspect, dressed in a white hoodie and brown trousers, appeared frail and was visibly limping as he was escorted to the courtroom.

The court also clarified that his family or counsel would be allowed access to him during the detention period.

Police had earlier revealed that the man claimed to have been sent by Satan to attack the officer. “This man claims he was sent by Satan to attack the police officer.

He killed him, and he is lucky to be alive himself,” said an officer aware of the developments.

The suspect told police he walked to the area as directed by Satan.

The area where the attack took place is usually a security clearing zone before motorists and pedestrians drive and walk to the State House, respectively.

Witnesses said the suspect walked to the scene posing as a member of the street families and carrying a sack. He had stuffed the spear in the sack.

He then hid behind a flower bed and removed it before spearing the slain officer in the chest, witnesses said.
