Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has urged the Kenyan youth to step into leadership positions, saying they play a vital role in shaping the country’s future.
In a message shared on his X account on October 12, 2025, Matiang’i emphasized the importance of youth involvement in governance and political decision-making.
“To the youth, you are the pillar on which our nation stands. Step forward and take up spaces of leadership. Serve your country with courage and vision and leave a mark that shapes the destiny of our nation,” he stated.
Matiang’i also expressed his personal commitment to serving the nation with dedication and humility.
He further recalled his time as Education Cabinet Secretary, expressing concern over the current state of the education sector.
“I am ready to work even tomorrow. I’m surprised that when I served as Education Minister, the first budget allocation always went to education. I can’t understand what is happening now—schools are closing after three weeks because there is no capitation,” he remarked.
Matiang’i’s statements reflect his belief that young people are crucial in sustaining national progress and driving development.
Recently, the former CS assured Kenyans that he would not let them down if elected president in 2027.
Speaking during a youth mentorship event, Matiang’i promised to deliver a transformative and responsive government.
“If I were so favoured and blessed to get the opportunity to serve this nation as president, I pledge to you, in this sanctuary, that I will never let you down,” he said.
Positioning himself as a key contender ahead of the 2027 General Election, Matiang’i said his leadership would mark a complete break from the past.
“Kenyans should expect to see a government they have never seen before,” he declared, vowing to bring the same urgency and efficiency he demonstrated during his time in the ICT ministry.
He highlighted his role in leading Kenya through the controversial digital migration process, saying it created vast opportunities for young people in the digital sector.
“When I was being challenged at the Supreme Court over digital migration, I stood firm. Imagine if we hadn’t made that move—where would we be today? All the work people now do on YouTube and other social media platforms stems from that decision. That fight opened doors for thousands of youth,” he explained.
Matiang’i has also officially confirmed his political allegiance after months of speculation, announcing that he has joined the Jubilee Party.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Abagusii community in Mavoko, Machakos County, on October 5, 2025, Matiang’i revealed that he accepted an invitation from former President Uhuru Kenyatta to return to the party.
“I am openly declaring that I have joined Jubilee. As we said during the National Delegates Conference, it’s time to strengthen and rebuild the Jubilee Party,” he stated.
Through his recent engagements and statements, Matiang’i has positioned himself as a potential presidential candidate who aims to inspire youth participation, promote effective governance, and restore confidence in national leadership.
