Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned against attempts
by the opposition to drag the government into premature and unproductive
politics, saying it is a waste of time and counterproductive.
Kindiki said it is not yet time for political battles,
outlining a busy, development-focused schedule aimed at the speedy completion
of projects meant to improve people’s lives.
“It is not yet time to engage in premature and useless
politics. Those enticing us to politick now are our enemies who don’t mean well
for us. We must reject their invitation because we have a lot to deliver,
including ensuring that roads, electricity, and market projects are completed
on time,” the DP declared.
Speaking on Saturday during the Maara Constituency Economic
Empowerment Engagement in Chogoria, Tharaka Nithi County, he dismissed calls to
engage in agenda-less politics but promised a bruising political contest at the
right time.
“We have no time for politics. This is the time to build our
country. But when the time comes for politics, we are unmatched experts and
will deliver an unparalleled competition,” he reiterated.
The Deputy President listed several ongoing and planned
projects in Tharaka Nithi County, assuring residents of his commitment to
ensuring their timely completion.
He said all stalled roads in the county had been revived,
including the Chogoria–Mutindwa–Weru Road, which was abandoned in 2018, and the
Keeria–Magutuni–Kathwana Road.
New roads funded by the Ruto Administration include the
Katharaka–Kanoro and Mitheru–Kamachuku roads, among others.
“I will make sure all these roads are completed without
further delays. As the Deputy President, I take full responsibility for their
delivery and the completion of all other projects in Tharaka Nithi,” Kindiki
pledged.
He announced that reconstruction of the
multi-billion-shilling Nithi Bridge had begun, with Sh8 billion allocated for
the project.
President Ruto had earlier promised to redesign and rebuild
the bridge, which has been blamed for multiple crashes that claimed hundreds of
lives.
“We already have the money for the reconstruction of Nithi
Bridge. We will build and complete it, and the President will be here to launch
it.
“No one told Moi, Kibaki, or Uhuru to serve one term, yet all of them failed to
rebuild the Nithi Bridge. Now that Ruto is doing it, we are being told he
should serve for one term. It won’t happen. He will serve two terms and
complete the Nithi Bridge to save our people from more deadly crashes,” the DP
emphasized.
Kindiki also revealed that the last-mile electricity
connection budget for the county had tripled from Sh400 million previously to
Sh1.2 billion this financial year.
He added that the Chogoria Modern Market was nearing
completion, and plans were underway to construct at least six new markets in
each of the county’s three constituencies of Maara, Tharaka, and
Chuka–Igambang’ombe.
“We have no reason not to deliver development to the people
of Tharaka Nithi. We will work with all leaders in the county to complete
ongoing projects and push for more because we have no excuse not to deliver,”
he said.
The DP was accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader
Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu), Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), and
MPs Kareke Mbiuki (Maara), Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka), Patrick Munene
(Chuka–Igambang’ombe), Susan Ngugi (Woman Representative, Tharaka Nithi
County), Shadrack Mwiti (South Imenti), Deputy Governor Nyaga Muisiraeli,
former Governor Samuel Ragwa, MCAs, and other local leaders.
