Kiambu National Polytechnic has launched a hospitality apprenticeship programme that will offer training and job placement opportunities in Germany for young Kenyans pursuing careers in the hospitality sector.
The programme is being implemented in collaboration with BSZ Erding and the German Hotel and Restaurant Association – DEHOGA Bavaria.
This international partnership is aimed at building the capacity of Kenyan trainees through exposure to European hospitality standards, language skills, and workplace practices.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to bridge the skills gap, improve youth employability, and create pathways to sustainable employment abroad.
The programme targets individuals between the ages of 18 and 24 years who are either holders of a minimum Level 4 certificate in Food and Beverage or Catering and Accommodation, or who have acquired at least two years of hands-on experience in the hospitality industry.
In addition, applicants must demonstrate German language proficiency at a minimum of A1 level, which is the introductory level based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The apprenticeship programme is structured in two phases. The first phase will involve a six-month blended learning course at Kiambu National Polytechnic, running from January to July 2026.
During this period, trainees will undergo instruction in German language and professional hospitality training.
The local training is designed to prepare participants for integration into the German vocational training system and work environment.
Upon successful completion of the Kenyan phase, selected participants will travel to Germany to undertake a paid apprenticeship in some of the country’s leading hotels.
The placements will provide practical, on-the-job experience under the German dual vocational training model, which combines classroom instruction with company-based training.
This system is widely regarded for producing highly skilled professionals with industry-relevant competencies.
Interested candidates are required to submit their curriculum vitae, certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts, and proof of German language proficiency to the Principal of Kiambu National Polytechnic via email at [email protected].
The deadline for the application is October 24, 2025.
Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted and invited to participate in interviews.
The programme offers an opportunity for young Kenyans to acquire international exposure, develop technical and language skills, and enhance their employability in the global hospitality market.
It is expected to contribute to both personal career growth and the overall development of the local hospitality industry through skills transfer and international collaboration.
