Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has added a major academic milestone to his public service career after graduating with a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the United States International University–Africa (USIU).

The outspoken legislator was among hundreds of students who received their degrees during USIU’s 47th graduation ceremony, held on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

In an emotional post on X, the MP reflected on his long journey from a humble background to becoming a top postgraduate student.

“Twenty-five years ago, an orphaned boy walked through the gates of Starehe Boys Centre and School armed only with a padlock. This was after emerging as the top student in the Western region in the 2000 KCPE exams, and with no hope for high school fees, Starehe became the last hope," he wrote.

The legislator further shared a heartwarming message that, although no one chooses the circumstances of where they come from, every individual retains the power to shape their own future.

“We don’t choose where, when, and whom to be born from, but we definitely have the power to choose our own destiny," he stated.

Amisi attended Sabatia Primary School between 1992 and 2000 before winning a place at Starehe Boys, where he completed his KCSE in 2004.

He later joined the University of Nairobi and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2010.

Balancing his parliamentary duties and a demanding political environment, he enrolled for the Master’s programme at USIU.

"Today, the same boy graduates as top student in the Master of Arts in international relations from USIU University, amidst a convoluted political environment coupled with the highly demanding public service work," he shared.

He further expressed gratitude to God for consistently guiding his life and sustaining him through challenges.

Reflecting on his personal journey from humble beginnings to academic and public service success, he encouraged young people not to be discouraged by their circumstances.

“If I can do it, you can surely do it,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, he called for a national renewal, declaring that “Kenya needs a renaissance.”
