On the Radar

The Departmental Committee on Communication, Information, and Innovation will hold a meeting with the CEO of the Media Council of Kenya, David Omwoyo.

Members of the committee and the CEO will deliberate on the Code of Conduct for Media Practice 2025, the status of Media Regulation and Monitoring, and the status of operationalisation and equipping of media hubs in the country.

The meeting will be held at Bunge Towers from 10 am.

The proposed Code of Conduct will introduce firm guidelines for media operations, including heavy penalties for the misuse of Artificial Intelligence and publication of misleading AI-generated content.

Additionally, the regulations will require a clear distinction between betting or gaming content and general news. Media outlets may also face sanctions for using headlines that do not accurately reflect the content of their stories.

Furthermore, the guidelines proposed a mandatory seven-second delay in live broadcasts to prevent the accidental airing of inappropriate or non-compliant content.

Some members of the committee have expressed reservations, warning that the regulations could unfairly target individual journalists while leaving media owners unaffected.

CS Murkomen to tour Mandera for the ongoing Jukwaa la Usalama meeting

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen will be in Madera County for the second day of the Jukwaa la Usalama meeting.

Speaking on his first day of the meeting on Monday, Murkomen reiterated his commitment to supporting police officers in addressing operational challenges, particularly cases of fuel shortages that have hampered service delivery.

He noted that the purpose of Jukwaa la Usalama, which has been held in multiple counties, is to create a platform for officers and residents to speak openly about security-related issues so that solutions can be developed in consultation with national and county governments.

Murkomen revealed that following discussions with Mandera Governor Mohamed Khalif and county leaders, water shortages in security camps would soon be addressed through a joint effort between the national and county governments.
