Kenyan football powerhouse Gor Mahia has kicked off its 2025/26 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) campaign this Sunday at Kasarani.

This marks the start of a new chapter under head coach Charles Akonnor.

Akonnor, a former captain and coach of the Ghana national team, was appointed to lead K’Ogalo following a season in which the club failed to secure any major trophy.

His arrival has been seen as a significant step by Gor Mahia’s management as they seek to restore the club’s dominance in Kenyan football.

The record 21-time Kenyan champions have strengthened their squad ahead of the season. Several new players have been brought in, among them foreign recruits expected to add depth and experience, particularly in the defensive line.

With the new season underway, the club is chasing what would be its 22nd FKF Premier League title.

The management and technical bench have emphasised that the focus is not only on winning but also on building a team capable of competing consistently at both domestic and continental levels.

Sunday’s opening fixture against Bidco United at Kasarani will provide fans with the first glimpse of Akonnor’s tactical approach and the impact of the new signings.

Supporters, who have continued to show strong loyalty to the club, turned up in anticipation of a fresh start and a return to winning ways.

The club has maintained its position as a major force in Kenyan football, with a decorated history that includes domestic titles and appearances on the continental stage in the CAF competitions.
