  • Mbui’s entry into the race follows weeks of political realignments that saw him sever ties with the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
  • Initially announcing plans to run as an independent candidate, Mbui later shifted allegiance to CCK, claiming his former party operated as a closed “members’ club.”

Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) has formally unveiled its candidates for the upcoming by-elections slated for November 27, 2025, signalling its intent to stake a firm claim in the expanding political battleground.

The party, led by former Presidential advisor Moses Kuria, issued nomination certificates to three aspirants on Friday, setting the stage for what is shaping up to be a competitive political season.

In Embu County, Daniel Ireri Mbui was handed the CCK ticket to contest for the position of Member of the National Assembly in Mbeere North Constituency.

"This is to certify that Daniel Ireri Mbui has been duly nominated by Chama cha Kazi to contest for the position of Member of National Assembly, Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County in the by-elections to be held on November 27, 2025," the certificate read.

Mbui’s entry into the race follows weeks of political realignments that saw him sever ties with the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

Initially announcing plans to run as an independent candidate, Mbui later shifted allegiance to CCK, claiming his former party operated as a closed “members’ club.”

“I have been watching with a keen eye the goings-on at the DCP party and have come to the conclusion that it is a members’ club within the so-called United Opposition,” Mbui said in a social media post on September 6.

His defection coincided with DCP’s withdrawal from the Mbeere North contest, after the party declared it would support the Democratic Party (DP) candidate in the constituency.

With CCK now fielding Mbui, the race is expected to tighten as the November date approaches.

Beyond Embu, CCK is also making moves in Nyamira County, where the party is seeking to expand its grassroots influence through strategic ward-level contests.

The party confirmed the nominations of Jackson Mogusu Mochumbe and Richard Monyancha Omboto to vie for the positions of Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Nyasiongo Ward, Borabu Constituency, and Nyamaiya Ward, West Mugirango Constituency, respectively.

Notably, both wards are in Nyamira County.

Mochumbe’s certificate, dated September 12, was unveiled by Kuria through his official X account, further underscoring the party’s direct involvement in showcasing its aspirants.

Similarly, Omboto’s nomination was confirmed in a parallel announcement, with CCK emphasising its commitment to fielding credible candidates in the ward races.

The decision to issue the certificates well in advance reflects CCK’s strategy of consolidating its position before rival parties tighten their own campaign machinery.

Political observers note that the November by-elections are more than just local contests; they represent an opportunity for parties to test their ground strength and build momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As campaigns gather pace, the November 27 by-elections are expected to attract intense competition, with political factions moving swiftly to consolidate support and stabilise their ground ahead of the ballot.

With certificates now in hand, the CCK nominees will embark on full-scale campaigns to sell their agenda to voters, in what promises to be a high-stakes test for both the party and its chosen flag bearers.
