Tragedy struck a construction site in Ndonya area, Kilifi County, when a 25-year-old worker died after being hit by a falling block.
Police identified the deceased as Mangi Karisa, who was among construction workers at the site on September 10, 2025, when the incident occurred.
A stone reportedly fell from an upper floor and struck him on the head, causing fatal injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities visited the scene as part of an ongoing investigation into the death. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Such deaths at construction sites have been occurring despite ongoing efforts to address safety concerns. Officials from the county government, police, and the National Construction Authority are handling the cases.
In a separate incident, police are investigating the killing of a boda boda rider in Marsabit Town.
The rider was stabbed and killed during an attempted robbery of his motorcycle on September 10, 2025. Police said the assailants fled after a member of the National Police Reserve responded to the scene.
The body was later found lying in a bush with stab wounds to the neck and back. It was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, while investigations continue. Police are pursuing the suspects.
Incidents targeting boda boda riders for their motorcycles have reportedly been on the rise. Victims are often advised to cooperate with attackers, but at least one case is reported weekly in the country, leaving riders dead or seriously injured.
Police investigations indicate that many of the stolen motorcycles are sold elsewhere or reconfigured for use.
To curb the trend, authorities have mounted operations to recover stolen motorcycles, resulting in the arrest of several suspects. Some of the cases are still pending in courts, police said.
Authorities continue to urge both construction companies and boda boda riders to follow safety and security guidelines to reduce fatalities and criminal incidents.
