In Summary

  • The prosecution had submitted probation reports recommending against bail, citing concerns over potential interference with investigations.
  • In contrast, the defense argues that Talaam, who has been interdicted from the police service, poses no threat and has surrendered all police powers and privileges.

A Kibera court is set to deliver its ruling on the bail applications of former Nairobi Central Police Station OCS Samson Talaam and five co-accused individuals charged with the murder of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang.

The prosecution had submitted probation reports recommending against bail, citing concerns over potential interference with investigations.

In contrast, the defence argues that Talaam, who has been interdicted from the police service, poses no threat and has surrendered all police powers and privileges.

Tob Cohen murder case

On the same court, the murder trial of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen is scheduled for a mention, with his widow, Sarah Wairimu, continuing to face charges of his murder.

In the previous session on July 8, 2025, the court declined Wairimu's bail application, citing concerns over witness intimidation, flight risk, and interference with the crime scene.

Justice Diana Kavedza emphasised that Wairimu needed to show remorse before any bail application could be considered.

The court also noted that she had obtained a second passport while the first remained in police custody, raising further concerns about her intentions.

The judge directed that Wairimu remain in custody at Lang’ata Women’s Prison until the trial is concluded.

Samidoh's desertion case

The desertion case involving popular musician and former police officer Samuel Muchoki, known as Samidoh, is scheduled to resume today at the High Court.

In previous orders, the court granted him anticipatory bail of Sh200,000 and ordered him to surrender his passport, effectively blocking his arrest over allegations of desertion.

The National Police Service (NPS) had accused Samidoh of allegedly abandoning his duties after he failed to report back following a trip to the United States, despite having received official clearance for his travel.

However, the NPS accepted his resignation on July 20, 2025, ending his 12-year tenure in the service.

The case comes up for a mention.

Kasipul MP Were’s murder case

The murder trial of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were returns today at the High Court in Kibera, with three accused individuals—William Imoli Shigali, Edwin Oduor Odhiambo alias Machuani, and Ebel Ochieng alias Dave Calo—set to face further proceedings.

On August 14, 2025, the court denied bail to the trio, citing concerns over witness intimidation and flight risk.

They face murder charges alongside the late MP’s bodyguard, Allan Omondi Ogola, and another accused, Isaac Kuria (alias Kush).

KNH murder suspect back in court

Kennedy Kalombotole, the prime suspect in two of the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) patient killings, is expected to return to the High Court in Kibera.

Kalombotole appeared in court on July 29, 2025, but did not take a plea, remaining mute despite police claims that he can communicate verbally.

His defense argued that he does not verbalise, and previous orders under the magistrate for a mental evaluation at Mbagathi Hospital had not been implemented.

The court subsequently ordered a mental assessment to determine his fitness to stand trial.
