Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Wednesday handed over 548 digital devices to 131 public health facilities in Uasin Gishu County.
This is part of the government's initiative to modernise health service delivery and strengthen accountability.
Kenya’s health sector continues to embrace digitisation as a key driver of quality, transparency, and equitable access to healthcare.
During the visit, Duale engaged with
Community Health Promoters (CHPs), acknowledging their essential role in health
education, disease prevention, and connecting families to services, especially
in rural and underserved areas.
“Duale also met with CHPs during a sensitisation caucus, commending them for
their frontline role in health education, disease prevention, and linking
families to essential services,” a statement by the Ministry of Health said..
Duale reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening community health as a key pillar of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The CS further announced that under the National Equipment Services Programme (NESP), Uasin Gishu County would receive state-of-the-art medical equipment.
These include CT scanners, digital X-rays, mammograms, and other life-saving tools.
“Through the National Equipment Services Programme (NESP), Uasin Gishu will benefit from a transformative upgrade in medical technology,” Duale announced.
This upgrade will be implemented under a fee-for-service model that eliminates upfront costs, allowing county health facilities continuous access to advanced medical equipment.
CS Duale emphasised that digitising health systems is essential in eliminating malpractice and entrenched impunity while improving access to quality healthcare for all Kenyans.
He also announced that the National Government will release Sh100 million by the end of September to revive the Ziwa Level 4 Hospital in Uasin Gishu.
"This will ensure that Ziwa Hospital is revived as part of our efforts to guarantee access to affordable healthcare for all Kenyans," Duale said.
Duale directed the contractor to be on site by September 22 to resume work on the multistorey facility, which has remained incomplete for over a decade.
Duale criticised the stalling of the project despite its location in President William Ruto’s rural Eldoret North Constituency, terming it a shame and an embarrassment that must not be entertained.
