Several people were Wednesday afternoon injured following a head-on collision between a Hilux truck and a lorry at Kijabe Junction along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged at the front and had to be pulled apart using a lorry.

The Hilux bore the worst impact, with its bonnet completely ripped off.

Residents and motorists worked in unison using axes to cut through the wreckage in desperate efforts to rescue those trapped inside.

Videos from the scene showed the rescuers working together to free the injured, with some tearing away pieces of metal to reach the trapped driver of the Hilux.

Kijabe Junction is a known blackspot that has recorded frequent accidents in the past along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru highway.
