Expect scattered rains, hot days and cool nights this week – Met

Kenyans should brace for a mix of hot daytime temperatures, cool nights, and scattered rains in different parts of the country this week.

According to the forecast for September 9–15, rainfall will persist in parts of the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and sections of the Rift Valley.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected in several areas.



The Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya will experience sweltering days, with maximum temperatures soaring above 30°C.

Mandera will be the hottest at 37°C, followed closely by Lodwar at 36°C and Garissa at 35°C.

In contrast, Nyahururu will record the coldest nights at 7°C, while Nyeri and Narok will drop to 9°C and 10°C respectively.

Strong southerly to south-easterly winds, blowing at more than 25 knots, are forecast over the Coast, the South-eastern Lowlands, and northern Kenya.

The regional outlook also shows that western Kenya and the Rift Valley will see sunny mornings before afternoon and evening showers.

In Nairobi and other parts of the Central Highlands, cloudy mornings are expected, with light rains giving way to sunshine and occasional evening showers.

North-eastern counties will be mostly sunny, with occasional morning rains.

The South-eastern Lowlands will see cloudy mornings before clearing, while the Coast will remain largely sunny, with some morning and night showers in a few places.

Aaccording to the weatherman, in last week’s review, Bungoma received the highest rainfall, at 91.2mm and 59.2mm in a single day (September 7).

At the same time, Mandera recorded the hottest day at 37.4°C, while Nyahururu had the coldest night at 7.2°C.
