Former Cabinet Minister and Marakwet East MP Linah Jebii Kilimo has lauded teachers for their vital role in shaping the behavior and future of children.

Speaking during a retirement farewell party for long-serving teacher Samuel Tanui at Chemworor Primary School in Sambirir, Marakwet East, on Saturday, Kilimo described teachers as the backbone of the country’s development agenda.

“What I know is that teachers are considered the most noble and responsible members of any society. Their contribution to our nation is invaluable,” she said.

She emphasised that teachers not only impart knowledge but also inspire and mentor students to achieve social, professional, and personal success.

According to her, their influence as organisers, guides, and role models is crucial in nurturing responsible citizens.

The former Immigration Minister challenged parents to prioritise their children’s education, saying it is the key to a brighter future for both families and the nation.

“As parents we should do all in our capacity to give our children good education to enable them overcome challenges that they might encounter in their journey through life,” she added.

Highlighting the importance of investing in education, the former MP noted that children are the country’s future leaders and deserve care, support, and opportunities to reach their full potential.

During the event, 2022 Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial aspirant Timothy Kipchumba applauded Kilimo for her commitment to education.

Kipchumba, who benefitted from the Guinness scholarship program initiated during her tenure as MP, credited her efforts for shaping his academic journey.

“I am one of the beneficiaries of education scholarships when Linah Kilimo was the Marakwet East MP. We applaud her for her inspiring leadership,” said Kipchumba.
