Security officers in Embakasi are holding a matatu driver who allegedly assaulted two police officers after being stopped for a traffic inspection.

According to police, the driver attacked the two officers in the dramatic Thursday morning incident, leaving them nursing injuries before he was subdued and arrested.

A police report indicates the incident occurred at around 9:30 am when a female traffic officer flagged down a Nissan matatu at the Taj Mall area.

Upon inspection, the officer discovered the vehicle allegedly lacked a valid road service licence. She then entered the vehicle and instructed the driver to take it to Embakasi Police Station.

However, the driver is said to have refused, threatening the officer that “they will die,” before speeding off recklessly.

On the way, he reportedly rammed into another Nissan matatu and later lost control near a petrol station.

“The vehicle swerved, struck flower vases, and overturned,” the police report states. The officer sustained head injuries in the crash but managed to escape.

The driver is said to have then followed her, pounced on her, and assaulted her with kicks and blows.

She suffered injuries to her left eye, ribs, collarbone, and leg, as well as a human bite on her left hand, police said.

Members of the public rescued the officer before police reinforcements arrived and arrested the suspect.

Upon being booked at the station, the driver attacked another officer, biting him on the left hand. Both officers were treated and later discharged.

The suspect remains in custody awaiting arraignment.
