While attending the Venice Film Festival, his weight loss was evident to everyone.

The massive amount of muscle he previously had was lost.

Fans also expressed worry, speculating that the actor might not be in good health. "I hope he is fine," commented a fan under a picture of The Rock's new physique.

The actor went on to shed some light on his new appearance.

"This transformation was something I was really hungry to do," The Rock said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter regarding the drastic weight loss.

The actor had to change his physique for his role in the film 'The Smashing Machine', where The Rock stars as the legendary MMA icon Mark Kerr.

The film, written and directed by Benny Safdie, has been confirmed as the reason The Rock had to lose 60 pounds (approximately 28 kilograms) in preparation for his role.

The actor also had to wear prosthetics to complete his transformation into the legendary UFC heavyweight champion and MMA icon.

"An unrecognisable Dwayne Johnson looks to give the best performance of his career," wrote a fan on X in anticipation of the movie's release.

During the film's premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2025, the film received a 15-minute standing ovation, making the 53-year-old actor sob uncontrollably.

Fans are predicting that his performance in the film will give The Rock his first chance for an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

The Smashing Machine is set to premiere in theatres on October 3, 2025.
