Police recover 10,000 litres of illicit brew in Kangemi raid

Authorities in Nairobi have dealt a major blow to the illegal alcohol trade following a successful raid in Kangemi, Dagoretti subcounty.

The operation led by officers from the Nairobi region resulted in the seizure and destruction of thousands of litres of illicit brew.

In a well-coordinated sting operation, police uncovered over 10,000 litres of kangara—an illegal homemade alcoholic substance.

The raid also led to the recovery of about 50 kilogrammes of jaggery and several packets of yeast catalyst, believed to be used in the fermentation process.

In addition, thirteen cartons of second-generation alcohol were found on site.

"During the raid, more than 10,000 litres of kangara were destroyed. Approximately 50 kilograms of jaggery and five packets of yeast catalyst were also recovered, alongside thirteen cartons of second-generation liquor," police said in a statement on Wednesday.

The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to the fight against illegal alcohol production and distribution, noting the public health and safety risks posed by such activities.

The community are urged to provide any information that may lead to tracing the suspects on hold of the substances.
