Police have arrested three notorious gang suspects in Kisii and Nyamira counties on Wednesday morning during a joint surveillance operation.

Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), supported by officers from the region, arrested the suspects who had been operating with impunity.

After investigations by CRIB, the suspects were linked to criminal activities in at least three separate incidents, two in Ramasha and one in Magena.

“After a painstaking probe, detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) linked the criminals to at least three separate heists: two in Ramasha and one in Magena,” a statement read.

The suspects were linked to crimes including robbery with violence, rape, and defilement across the region.

One of the most disturbing incidents, according to investigators, involved the gang breaking into the home of a 95-year-old grandmother at night.

She reportedly prayed for them, which they obeyed, but they later turned into robbers.

The criminals are said to have drunk all the milk she had kept in a flask for medication, ate every edible crumb in the house, and made away with her electronics.

“The gang guzzled down all the milk she had kept in a flask for her medication, ate every edible crumb in sight, and made away with all the electronics in the house,” CRIB reported.

The operation by CRIB detectives, working hand in hand with officers from Kenyanya and Nyamira, also led to the recovery of stolen electronics and a motorcycle the gang had been using in their criminal activities.

The suspects are currently in police custody undergoing processing, pending arraignment in court.
