Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Monday held a high-level meeting with a delegation from Siemens Healthineers.

The delegation was led by Vice President and Head of Public Sector Engagement Kevin Ani Massoudi.

The aim of the meeting was to strengthen Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda with a focus on cancer care.

The engagement centred on enhancing access to affordable, quality healthcare and decentralising specialised services.

Duale said the government is committed to ensuring access to affordable, quality healthcare without financial hardship.

He highlighted ongoing reforms, including the establishment of regional cancer centres in Mombasa, Nakuru, and Garissa.

“This is a critical step in bringing care closer to communities,” he noted.

The CS updated the delegation on the National Equipment Service Project (NESP), which is improving access to diagnostic and treatment equipment across the country.

He also cited a breakthrough in cancer care through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Roche that reduced the cost of Herceptin therapy from Sh120,000 to Sh40,000 per session.

“The therapy is now fully covered by the Social Health Authority,” Duale said, adding that this ensures equitable access to life-saving treatment.

Talks with Siemens Healthineers focused on Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and leveraging expertise in AI, digital platforms, capacity building, and technology transfer.

Both parties agreed to form a joint technical working group to advance SLAs, digital innovations, and NESP-aligned equipment models.

Duale commended Siemens Healthineers for its role in expanding radiotherapy and diagnostic services, saying the partnership “positions Kenya as a continental leader in sustainable cancer care.”

The meeting was attended by senior health officials, including Medical Services Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga, Director General for Health Patrick Amoth, and National Cancer Institute CEO Elias Melly.
