The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced the postponement of the much-expected Busia County delegate elections, which had been scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025.
In a statement shared on the party’s official X page, National Election Coordinating Committee (NECC) chairperson Emily Awita issued a corrigendum to the prior notice dated August 18, 2025, informing party members and stakeholders of the change.
According to the NECC, the elections will remain postponed until further notice.
The committee assured members in the affected region that fresh dates will be communicated in due course.
“Members in the affected electoral area are advised to remain patient and await the official communication on the rescheduled timelines,” the statement said.
While no reasons were given for the postponement, the party emphasised its commitment to conducting credible and transparent internal elections across the country.
The statement called on members to remain calm and adhere to official communication channels to avoid misinformation.
The postponement comes amid a wider, ongoing nationwide grassroots elections process that has seen party delegates chosen from ward to county level.
ODM has been conducting these elections to prepare for its national delegates’ conference and eventual leadership realignment.
As the party works to organise and strengthen its structures ahead of the next general election cycle, the delay in Busia is expected to temporarily pause political activity in the region.
