Consolata International University (CIU) has officially become Kenya’s 82nd accredited institution of higher learning following the issuance of a Letter of Interim Authority.

The award of the Letter marks a significant milestone in the university’s journey towards achieving full university status.

The event, held on Wednesday morning at the Commission for University Education (CUE) headquarters, was attended by Education Cabinet Secretary Hon. Migos Ogamba, Principal Secretary for Higher Education and Research Dr. Beatrice Iyangala, the newly appointed CUE Chairman Prof. James Onyango Owino, and other leaders from Consolata.

Ogamba commended CIU’s mission to offer holistic education grounded in values, academic excellence, and community service.

He noted that the university’s academic focus aligns with national development goals, with programmes in teacher training, business, health sciences, agriculture, and environmental studies.

Addressing the critical issue of university funding, Ogamba reiterated the government’s commitment to affordable higher education.

He said the new student funding model has already disbursed Sh9.46 billion through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), supporting more than 309,000 university students.

The Cabinet Secretary also issued a firm call for accountability in theological education.

“Your theological programmes must demonstrate ethical leadership and serve as a benchmark in an area that has suffered in the past from a lack of oversight,” he said.

He further acknowledged the role of private universities in expanding access to higher education and highlighted the Catholic Church’s longstanding contribution to education in Kenya through the Consolata Mission.

“Private universities complement, not compete with, public universities. Together, they enrich our education ecosystem,” he added.

Ogamba concluded by calling on stakeholders to rally behind Consolata International University as it begins its academic journey.

“Let us share expertise and build strong institutions. When our universities thrive, our nation prospers,” he said.
