President William Ruto’s week was a packed mix of political milestones, grassroots engagements, and continental diplomacy, capped by the official opening of the 9th Devolution Conference in Homa Bay. 

From church pulpits and football locker rooms to groundbreaking ceremonies and regional peace talks, the Head of State used every platform to advance his administration’s transformation agenda.

Sunday, August 10

The week began in Limuru, Kiambu County, where Ruto attended a Sunday service at the PCEA Joshua Matenjwa Memorial Church. 

In his sermon remarks, he stressed that no amount of noise or political opposition would derail his government’s plans, particularly the Affordable Housing Programme.

Later, he toured the 705-unit Limuru Affordable Housing Project, now 70 per cent complete and set for handover in January 2026. 

He noted that Kiambu’s 15,000 new housing units, alongside those in Nairobi, would help meet the capital region’s growing housing needs while doubling jobs in the sector from 320,000 to 640,000.

Monday, August 11 

Fresh from Harambee Stars’ victory over Morocco, Ruto visited the team at their Nairobi hotel, praising their ability to unite the country. 

He urged Kenyans never to let “negativity, failure or doubt” divide them and announced hefty rewards, including Sh2.5 million per player for a win against Zambia, and a two-bedroom house for reaching the CHAN quarter-finals.

At State House, the President hosted a delegation from California led by State Secretary of Transportation Toks Omishakin, alongside US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Carla Benini. 

He highlighted Kenya’s partnership with California in technology, climate innovation, and trade, noting Kenya’s leadership in renewable energy with a 93 per cent clean power grid.

Tuesday, August 12 

In Kakamega, Ruto marked International Youth Day at Masinde Muliro University, unveiling the “Kuna Form” portal to give young people easier access to government business opportunities. 

He presented Sh163 million in cheques to 816 youths headed for overseas jobs and outlined multi-pronged initiatives such as affordable housing, climate jobs, and digital hubs to tackle unemployment.

Later in Homa Bay, he met grassroots women leaders from four Nyanza counties, pledging continued investment in women’s economic empowerment as a driver of sustainable development.

Wednesday, August 13

Still in Homa Bay, Ruto assented to the County Allocation of Revenue Bill, raising counties’ equitable share to Sh415 billion, Sh30 billion more than last year. 

He also opened the new Homa Bay County Headquarters and the Ugatuzi Amphitheatre, lauding Governor Gladys Wanga for her innovation in public infrastructure.

He broke ground for a 588-unit Tom Mboya University hostel, the first under the Housing Programme, designed to house over 2,000 students and create 1,500 jobs.

The day’s centrepiece was opening the 9th Devolution Conference, where Ruto hailed Sh4 trillion in transfers to counties since 2013, promised timely disbursements, and celebrated the completion of devolution’s outstanding legal and functional handovers.

That evening, he joined a joint EAC-SADC virtual summit on eastern DR Congo, endorsing a unified African-led mediation framework to end the conflict.

Thursday, August 14 

In Awendo, Migori County, Ruto met local leaders alongside Governor Ochillo Ayacko, reaffirming his government’s focus on practical solutions over political rhetoric. 

He broke ground for the 300-unit Awendo Affordable Housing Project, expected to create more than 500 jobs and stimulate the local economy.

Friday, August 15

Back in Nairobi, the President hosted grassroots leaders from Nyamira and Kisii Counties at State House, crediting bold, sometimes tough, policy decisions with stabilising the economy and restoring investor confidence. 

He pledged to channel the resulting growth into upgrading infrastructure, modernising services, and expanding delivery of essential public goods.
