On the radar

ODM leader Raila Odinga will be the chief guest at the 2025 Devolution Conference in Homa Bay County.

Raila, along with other leaders, championed the idea of a devolved government structure during the constitutional review process in Kenya.

His influence on the constitutional review process and his support for devolution were crucial, but he was part of a broader movement that pushed for this change.

The conference, which President William Ruto officially opened on Wednesday, brings together members of the National Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, county governments and development partners to take stock of progress of the devolved system of government.

The event has been themed “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice.”

Kenya Railways management to appear before MPs over land leased out by the corporation

The Departmental Committee on Lands will meet the management of Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) on land owned and land leased out by the entity at 10 am, Continental House.

Parliament has launched a fresh inquiry into the ownership of 74 acres of land currently hosting the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) terminus in Nairobi amid revelations that Kenya Railways may have acquired the property without any valid documentation.

Members of the National Assembly Lands Committee discovered that crucial documents—including title deeds and allotment letters—are missing, casting doubt on the legality of the acquisition.

CS Chirchir to appear before Transport Committee over Air Passenger Service Charge

Roads and Transport CS Davis Chirchir will appear before the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure for consideration of the Air Passenger Service Charge at 10 am, Bunge Towers.

Discussions will focus on the report on the Air Passenger Service Charge (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 35 of 2025).

The Air Passenger Service Charge is a fee levied on passengers departing from Kenyan airports. For international flights, the charge is $50 USD, and for domestic flights, it is Sh600.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) collects this charge, and the funds are used to support various initiatives, including the Kenya Meteorological Service and potentially the Tourism Fund.
