According to the update issued on Friday, rainfall amounts
ranging between 5mm and more than 20mm are already being recorded in various
parts of the country and are expected to intensify in the coming days.
“Scattered rainfall is being experienced and is expected to
continue and intensify over several parts of the country,” Met said.
Regions likely to be affected include Central Highlands (including
Nairobi), Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley and North-western
Kenya.
The department further noted that isolated thunderstorms are
expected in some areas, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Met also stated that cold and cloudy conditions will persist
intermittently over parts of the Highlands (East and West of the Rift Valley),
South-eastern Lowlands and the Rift Valley.
Additionally, strong southerly to south-easterly winds, exceeding
25 knots / 12.86 m/s, are forecast over the Coast, South-eastern Lowlands,
North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
The department urged the public to stay informed and take
necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to poor drainage, dust or
strong winds.
Met also forecasted the weather for the next five days from August
9, to August 13, 2025.
The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria
Basin and the Rift Valley regions will experience rains and scattered thunderstorms.
These include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii,
Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu,
Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet,
Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot counties.
Met said the North-western parts (Turkana and Samburu counties)
will have sunny conditions with chances of showers.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, there will be scattered
showers and cloudy conditions.
The affected regions include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga,
Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi counties.
Parts of the south-eastern lowlands would remain cloudy and
dry over the weekend.
This includes Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita
Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
The North-eastern region (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa
and Isiolo counties) will also remain dry and sunny.
The coastal region along Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties, as well as coastal parts of Tana River County, will experience cloudy conditions with sunny intervals.
