Media personality Joyce Gituro has been forced to apologise
after her comment on a post announcing a pastor’s suspension over allegations
of misconduct.
According to Gituro, she made the comments without knowing the
full extent and nature of the suspension.
She explained that she had assumed it was an internal matter
that but as soon as she learned the facts of the issue at she retracted and
deleted her post.
“I shared a comment yesterday, unaware of the full and
serious nature of the pastor’s suspension. I assumed it was an internal
disciplinary matter and reacted to what seemed like public shaming. Once I
learned the truth, I deleted the post,” she said in a statement.
The former radio host insisted that she stands against any
form abuse and in support of the victims.
Gituro added that she regrets her quick reaction to the
matter without full knowledge of what was going on.
“Let me be clear: I stand firmly against all forms of abuse,
especially as a mother and a Christian. I stand against any form of abuse and
also with the victims. I totally regret my fast reaction to that story.”
Gituro had questioned why the church would put in the public
a statement announcing the suspension of a pastor.
She stated that it would amount to damaging the pastor’s
reputation.
“Why put it on social media? You are damaging a brother
more," she said in the now deleted comment.
On August 3, the Nairobi Baptist Church put up a statement
announcing the departure of a Senior Pastor over allegations of misconduct.
The Church said that following a review of his actions, the
Elders Council had also revoked his ordination.
It further said that an independent investigation is being
initiated to understand the extent and impact of the matter.
"Munengi Mulandi is no longer serving as the Senior
Pastor of Nairobi Baptist Church, effective June 1, 2025, following serious
allegations of misconduct. After careful review of his actions against biblical
standards, they were deemed incompatible with the calling of a servant of Jesus
Christ and the responsibilities of ordained pastoral ministry.
"Consequently, after prayerful consideration and full
awareness of the weight of such an action, the Elders Council made the decision
to revoke his ordination. This means that, as a church, we sadly can no longer
affirm that he is qualified to be a minister of the gospel of Jesus
Christ," the statement read in part.
The church said it remains fully committed to due process,
pursuing truth with integrity, and addressing this matter with the seriousness
it demands.
