A 17-year-old boy drowned while crossing a river in the Ogwedhi area, Migori County.
According to police, the victim’s mother said he was epileptic.
His body was found floating in the river on the afternoon of August 1, several days after the incident occurred.
Police said the body had bruises on the face and right ear when it was retrieved. It was discovered by a child who was also crossing the area.
The boy had been missing since July 30, and the family had been searching for him until the body was found.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending investigations and a post-mortem.
In a separate incident, police in Murumba, Kakamega County, are investigating a murder following a fight between two brothers.
The altercation, which occurred on the night of July 31, reportedly started over a jerrican of water belonging to their elderly mother. The brothers, aged 46 and 35, became physical during the dispute.
The mother told police she fled the scene and returned the following day, August 1, only to find the body of her younger son, Nelson Matayo, 35, lying in a pool of blood at her doorstep.
The body had deep cuts to the head.
The suspect was missing when police arrived and took the body to the mortuary.
Officers said they are pursuing him to face murder charges. Several witnesses have been questioned as part of the investigation.
Meanwhile, police in Sotik, Bomet County, have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a student on July 16.
The body of Vincent Kirenge Otieno was found in a trench, long after he was attacked by at least five men.
Police said on Wednesday that two of the suspects had been arrested, and a manhunt is underway for the remaining three.
The motive for the fatal attack is yet to be established.
Otieno was on attachment in the area at the time of the incident.
