The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued a travel
advisory for passengers flying through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
(JKIA) and Wilson Airport on Sunday, over road closures.
The advisory comes as Nairobi hosts a key match of the
African Nations Championship (CHAN), one of the continent's top football
tournaments.
To facilitate the movement of teams, officials, and fans,
and to enhance security, several major roads will be either fully closed or
partially restricted.
This is expected to cause traffic disruptions in parts of
the city.
“Passengers are strongly urged to check flight schedules and
allow for prolonged travel times to ensure timely arrival at JKIA or Wilson
Airport.
“Should you require any assistance or additional
information, you may reach KAA Customer Service at JKIA by calling +254 20 661
1000 or +254 20 661 2000. You can also email us at [email protected],” the
authority said.
Among the affected roads is Aerodrome Road, which will be
fully closed from the Madaraka roundabout to Bunyala roundabout.
KAA advises motorists to use Mombasa Road to the CBD via
Likoni-Enterprise Road or the Southern Bypass as an alternative.
Lang’ata Road will have one side closed from the Madaraka
roundabout to the Lusaka roundabout. Motorists are advised to use Raila Odinga
Road or Muthio Road as alternative routes.
Mombasa Road will also be partially closed. One side will be
shut from the Lusaka roundabout to Bunyala roundabout.
Drivers heading from the CBD to Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja, or
Thika are advised to use Limuru Road or Kiambu Road.
Those coming from Thika Road can use the Eastern Bypass,
Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.
The CHAN tournament is expected to attract thousands of
fans, with Nairobi City playing host to multiple high-profile matches.
