A police officer was stabbed to death during a robbery in
Dandora, Nairobi.
The officer, Constable Layford Gitonga of Dandora Police
Station, was off duty when he was attacked in Dandora Phase Three around 1 am
on Saturday.
Police said he was
found dead with a stab wound to the chest.
Gitonga is believed to have resisted the robbery, leading to
a fatal confrontation. His mobile phone was stolen during the incident.
The assailants fled towards the nearby dumpsite and are yet
to be identified.
The officer died at the scene.
His body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and
further investigations.
Police say they are following leads, though a major
operation in the area yielded no arrests.
Authorities continue to advise robbery victims to cooperate
with attackers to avoid such tragedies.
Meanwhile, in Kilifi, ten police officers were injured
Friday night in an accident involving their Land Cruiser.
The vehicle rolled into a ditch in the Timboni Maweni area.
All firearms were recovered and accounted for. The injured
officers were treated and discharged in stable condition.
Traffic accidents involving police vehicles have been on the
rise, prompting concern over safety protocols.
