Renowned preacher Prophet David Owuor has distanced himself from viral claims suggesting he prophesied the end of the world would occur on August 2, 2025.
In an official statement released by the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness on Friday, the church dismissed the circulating reports as false, misleading, and deliberately twisted to damage the reputation of the preacher and undermine his ministry’s message.
“The leadership and congregation of The Ministry of Repentance and Holiness strongly denounce the recent spread of false and misleading information about The World Ending on August 2nd, 2025,” the statement read.
“Prophet Dr Owuor has always been very categorical on the fact that nobody knows the day or the hour when the Messiah will return, as the Bible clearly states in Matthew 24:36,” it added.
The church accused those behind the reports of distorting the prophet’s teachings to discredit the church.
“These claims are intended to harm not only the reputation of the prophet of the Lord, Dr David Owuor, and the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness, but also the unity and testimony of our church,” the statement added.
The church noted it had already addressed the issue in an earlier official communication on July 13, 2025, which was captured by national broadcaster KBC on July 14 and Radio 47 on July 15.
The church called for responsible use of the digital spaces, urging media houses, bloggers, and social media users to refrain from “sharing or entertaining unverified allegations,” and instead embrace truth, peace, and discernment.
“As believers, we are called to pursue truth, peace, and righteousness. Let us not be quick to spread gossip, but instead be diligent in prayer, discernment, and unity,” the church said.
News of the alleged doomsday had caused panic amongst some believers.
This was not the first time such news emerged online.
Last year, similar claims attributed to the prophet also went viral, claiming that his prophecy had pointed to November 2, 2024 as doomsday.
His clarification on the recent claims sparked reactions online, with one saying:
“It’s truly unfortunate how quick people can propagate and spread misinformation. Prophet Dr Owuor has never declared that the world would end on August 2nd. If anything, he has consistently warned that the church must be ready at all times."
