Three schools across the country have received a major boost to their libraries after the Rotary Club of Ngong Hills (RCNH) donated 3,500 textbooks.
The donation was made in partnership with the Rotary Club of Karen and Oxford University Press.
The donation is aimed at improving literacy and expanding access to learning materials for students in underserved communities.
The books were distributed to Kerarapon Secondary School in Karen, which received 1,250 textbooks, Oloolua Secondary School in Kajiado North with 1,250 textbooks and Mrabani Primary School in Taita Taveta which got 1,000 textbooks.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held at Kerarapon Secondary School, Rotary District 9212 Governor Rotarian Wairimu Njage hailed the initiative, describing it as a clear example of service to the community.

“This is Rotary in action. When we empower young minds through education, we transform communities,” Njage said.
The president of the Rotary Club of Ngong Hills, Reginald Mahonga, said the donation was a deliberate effort to respond to the need for learning materials in underserved schools.
“This donation is not just about textbooks, it’s about opening minds and unlocking futures. We thank our partners and look forward to expanding our impact,” Mahonga stated.

School heads and teachers described the donation as timely, saying it would go a long way in addressing resource gaps that have long hampered learning.
“These textbooks will significantly improve our teaching resources and student engagement,” the principal of Kerarapon Secondary School Joseph Kamakia said.
The donation, which aligns with Rotary International’s global focus on basic education and literacy, aims to give students better opportunities to learn and grow.
Oxford University Press partnered with the clubs to ensure the provision of high-quality learning materials to promote a culture of reading among students.
This initiative comes just two months after another milestone project by the Rotary Club of Ngong Hills.
On May 10, 2025, the club awarded 15 full scholarships to bright but needy students from Kajiado North subcounty during a ceremony held at Embul-bul Secondary School.
RNCH has collaborated with three schools in Kajiado North subcounty: Oloolua, Embul-bul and Kerarapon secondary schools to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to complete their education.

“The best way to support the future generation is by ensuring they access education for a better future tomorrow,” Killian Nyambu, the club’s director of membership, said during the scholarship award event.
Founded in 2012, the Rotary Club of Ngong Hills is part of Rotary International, District 9212.
Over the years, the club has been active in community service projects ranging from mentorship, career counselling, and tree planting to healthcare initiatives and the provision of clean water.
In a statement, the club noted that these projects are designed to address a wide range of community needs, including peace building, afforestation, access to healthcare, and at the core, education.
RCNH emphasised that
education remains a cornerstone of its mission, calling on partners, donors and
well-wishers to join hands in sustaining and expanding the scholarship and book
donation programmes to reach more schools across the country.
