Police announce road closures and diversions ahead of CHAN tournament in Nairobi Nairobi motorists have been urged to brace for major traffic changes ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament set to kick off on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

The Nairobi Traffic Commandant, Joseph Chirchir, has issued a detailed traffic advisory highlighting road closures and alternative routes to ease movement during the event.

In the traffic update released on Thursday, police announced that several key roads around the CHAN match venues will either be completely closed or partially restricted.

This is to facilitate smooth movement of teams, officials, and fans, and to enhance security.

Here are some of the roads to be closed.

Aerodrome Road will be fully closed from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.

Lang’ata Road will have one side closed between Madaraka Roundabout and Lusaka Roundabout.

Mombasa Road will be restricted on one side from Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.

To manage the expected heavy flow, the following alternative diversion routes have been provided.

Mombasa Road to CBD: Motorists are advised to use Likoni–Enterprise Road at General Motors or the Southern Bypass via Ole Sereni.

Lang’ata Road to CBD: Drivers should divert to Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at the Mbagathi Roundabout.

CBD to Thika, Ruiru, Juja, and Thika Road: Use either Limuru Road or Kiambu Road.

Matatus ferrying fans to Kasarani Stadium should take the Ruaraka–Baba Dogo Road, Ngomongo Road, and head to Ngomongo Roundabout.

Thika Road-bound motorists are advised to opt for Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.

The CHAN tournament is expected to attract thousands of fans, with Nairobi City playing host to multiple high-profile matches.
