A High Court in Nairobi dismissed on Tuesday an application by Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara that sought to quash criminal charges filed against her by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The court ruled that the DPP acted within the law in instituting the charges, paving the way for the MP to face trial.

Kihara appeared before Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi. She is scheduled to take a plea to charges of alleged inciting remarks made during a rally next Tuesday, August 5.

Several lawmakers allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accompanied her to court.
