

President William Ruto has made new appointments to key parastatal boards in the health sector, replacing several officials whose terms have been revoked.
In a gazette notice dated July 25, 2025, the President appointed Fredrick Namenya Were as the new Chairperson of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council for a period of three years.
The appointment of Stanley Khainga was revoked.
Ruto also named Paul Ndung’u Kariuki as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya National Public Health Institute for a three-year term, effective July 25, 2025.
The position was previously held by David Ndegwa Nyokabi, whose appointment was revoked.
In changes affecting the country’s largest referral hospital, Ruto appointed a new Chairperson of the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Board of Directors, naming Dr Abbas Gullet.
He revoked the appointment of Dr Samier Muravvej and reassigned him as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council.
The appointment takes effect on August 5, 2025, and will run for a period of three years.
The appointments were made under various legal provisions, including the State Corporations Act, the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, and specific regulatory orders guiding each institution.
Separately, various Cabinet Secretaries also announced appointments in their respective dockets.
Sports CS Salim Mvurya appointed Joseph Maina Njogu as a board member of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya for a three-year term.
In the health docket, CS Aden Duale appointed Dr Dabar Abdi Maalim as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Nursing Council of Kenya Board for a period of three years starting July 25, 2025.
Cabinet Secretary for Information Communications and the Digital Economy William Kabogo reappointed Joseph Maina Muiruri as the Chairperson of the Media Council of Kenya.
He also reappointed Susan Karago, Timothy Wanyonyi Chetambe and Tabitha Mutemi as members of the council. Their terms will run for three years.
In the education sector, CS Julius Ogamba reappointed Cyrus Gituai as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) for another three-year term.
Trade CS Lee Kinyanjui reappointed Dorothy Chepkoech as a board member of the Export Processing Zones Authority, with her term also running for three years.
Geoffrey Ruku, the CS for Public Service, appointed Brynes Mbogo as a member of the National Youth Service Council for a similar term.
In the water sector, CS Eric Muuga reappointed Simon Nganga (Eng.), Hassan Ahamednur Baricha, Jared Mekenye Ongwae and Lydia Boke Marwa as members of the Water Resources Authority Board.
Meanwhile, in the agriculture docket, CS Mutahi Kagwe appointed Jonah Marindich to the National Cereals and Produce Board for a three-year term effective July 25, 2025.
