The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has notified the public of a planned nationwide exercise aimed at collecting data for the 2025/26 Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey (KIHBS).
In a notice, the bureau stated that its officials will be visiting selected households across the country beginning this July.
The exercise, which will run for 12 months until July 22, 2026, aims to gather vital data that will inform national planning, policy formulation, and the monitoring of living standards.
The visits will target 24,480 scientifically sampled households across all 47 counties, including 960 households in refugee camps.
Data to be collected covers areas including income distribution, expenditure patterns, education and health, employment and labor conditions, child health and nutrition, fertility and mortality rates, and housing, water, sanitation, and energy use.
According to KNBS, the trained enumerators will conduct face-to-face interviews in these selected households.
To ensure authenticity, all enumerators, it said, will carry official KNBS identification badges.
“The enumerators will wear identification badges bearing QR scan codes for authentication and introduction letters from KNBS,” reads the notice appearing in the weekly paper MyGov.
“Data will be collected using tablet computer.” The bureau has appealed to all selected households to cooperate fully and provide accurate information.
This, as it assured that all responses will be kept strictly confidential and used solely for statistical purposes.
“Our commitment is to hold the data collected in strict confidentiality and use it for statistical purposes only,” the notice states.
The KIHBS is one of the country’s most comprehensive household surveys and plays a critical role in shaping Kenya’s economic and social development agenda.
KNBS has provided contact information for any inquiries and encourages the public to support this national initiative.
“For any inquiries, the public can contact KNBS at Real Towers, Nairobi via phone or email, or visit their website at www.knbs.or.ke.”
