Treasury Cabinet Secretary(CS) John Mbadi has assured Kenyans that the economy is in the right trajectory and dismissed allegations of a struggling economy.
Mbadi said since he took over office, he has been able to stabilise the economy and the government was now able to meet its financial obligations in time.
He said inflation had been brought down to acceptable levels while debt repayment was timely under his tenure.
The CS said he has been able to achieve a lot more than his predecessors who served for longer periods.
“Claims that the economy is doing badly is false. It is meant to divert attention from the good work going on," the CS asserted.
He noted that for the first time, Treasury was able to transfer all funds owed to the county governments by the end of the financial year.
Speaking Saturday at a funds drive at Mikuyu Primary School in Suba South, the CS called for the support of the broad-based government to accelerate development.
Mbadi said Treasury has also been able to disburse all National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), including arrears.
He said when he took office in August 2024,the Treasury owed NG- CDF Sh13 billion, which he has been able to clear.
“We paid everything before the close of the last financial year. We have given the money to the NG-CDF board and it is transferring the money to constituencies," Mbadi said.
He said he should not be blamed for any slow development in any region. He told voters to question their legislators and governors if they feel they are not getting their desired development projects.
"I should not be blamed if your MP is not bringing NG-CDF to the ground," he said.
He said the Treasury has also ensured schools get capitation on time.
"We paid 50 per cent of the total capitation in January. Another 30 per cent was paid in May while the remaining 20 per cent will be paid in third term," Mbadi said.
He urged all Kenyans to register for the Social Health Authority to take care of their hospital bills.
