On the radar

Catholic bishops will have a State of the Nation address on Thursday at Ufungamano House at noon.

The address comes barely a month after the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) delivered a scathing indictment of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The bishops blamed the ruling regime for extrajudicial killings, silencing dissent, and mismanaging public resources while ignoring the suffering of ordinary Kenyans.

The bishops of the Catholic Church’s 30 dioceses across the country expressed alarm over what they described as a disturbing collapse of justice, accountability, and human dignity under the current administration.

They pointed to a pattern of mysterious disappearances, unlawful killings, and violent intimidation by security forces.

Murkomen’s Jukwaa la Usalama initiative meetings move to West Pokot

The Jukwaa la Usalama initiative sessions in northern Kenya enter day two. The meeting brings together opinion leaders, the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), security personnel and elected leaders.

The meetings were conceived by Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and are aimed at getting feedback on security, development, and service delivery concerns from the residents and leaders in open and candid conversations.

On Wednesday, Murkomen was in Lodwar in Turkana. He will hold similar meetings in West Pokot and Samburu counties.

In Lodwar, the CS held a meeting with community leaders, NGAOs, security personnel and elected leaders at the Ekales Cultural Centre.

Bank accounts being operated by counties illegally

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi will meet with the Standing Committee on Devolution and Inter-governmental Relations to deliberate on bank accounts being operated by counties contrary to the law.

The meeting will be held at Bunge Towers from 10 am.

Governors have continued to open bank accounts for county operations, pushing the numbers to 2,421 as of September 30, 2024.

The move is in total disregard of warnings by oversight agencies.

Public finance laws and attendant regulations require that county government bank accounts must be opened and maintained at the Central Bank of Kenya.

Most counties are, however, operating the kitties in breach of Regulations 82( 1 )(b) of the PFM (County Governments) Regulations, 2015.

ODM youth to endorse Ong’ondo Were’s son, Boyd Were, for the Kasipul Parliamentary seat

ODM Youth League will address a press conference at noon at the Mash Park Hotel in Nairobi at noon. The youth are expected to endorse Ong’ondo Were’s son, Boyd Were, for the Kasipul Constituency seat.

ODM has said it has no favourite candidate for the impending by-election in Homa Bay's Kasipul Constituency.

The seat fell vacant following the assassination of incumbent MP Charles Ong'ondo Were on April 30, 2025.

ODM national chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has allayed fears that the party would handpick Were's successor.
