The deceased, identified by police as Daniel Kaloki Mutua, was found lifeless inside his house in Kathuni village on Wednesday, July 16.
He had a shoelace, extended with a manila rope, tied around his neck.
According to a police report filed at Kaani Police Post under OB No. 08/16/07/2025 at 6:15 pm, the incident was reported by the deceased’s son, Daniel Mutua.
The report stated that Mutua, together with his sister-in-law, Nzilani, had attempted to reach the deceased at around 10:00 am but received no response.
The house door was locked from the inside, prompting them to forcibly gain access by removing wall bricks.
Upon entry, they found the elderly man lying unresponsive on the floor.
Police officers from Kaani, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene and documented it.
The deceased’s brother, Musyoki Kaloki, told police that he had last seen Daniel the previous day at around 5:00 pm at Kathuni market, where they had attended a family meeting.
He said the deceased appeared normal at the time.
There were no visible physical injuries on the body. A suicide note was reportedly found on a table near the body.
“The body has no visible injuries, and a suicide note was recovered and placed on a table. The scene has been photographed and documented,” the report read in part.
The body was moved to Kathiani Level IV Hospital morgue pending a postmortem examination as investigations continue into the incident.
