Four members of Nyumba Kumi
were arrested after a man they had allegedly 'disciplined' died in hospital in Mutuati
area, Meru County.
The four and others had
assaulted a man on claims that he had assaulted his wife, police said.
The wife reported him to
the members of the gang who assaulted him as part of moves to instill
discipline in him.
This turned tragic after
he later succumbed to the injuries in the hospital, prompting police to take action on July 15.
Police said they are
investigating murder in the saga.
There have been
complaints from some local leaders that the Nyumba Kumi members are running a
kangaroo court, which includes beatings.
The gang has also led to the deaths of some of their victims.
Local leaders claim up to
five people have died at the hands of the gang amid calls on police to
investigate the issue.
Police said they are
investigating the claims. Such gangs are rampant in parts of Meru and Kisii
Counties amid calls for action to tame their activities.
The gangs run their courts
and allegedly turn them into torture chambers in villages with police knowledge.
Meanwhile, police in
Mackinon, Kwale county are investigating murder in an incident where the
decomposed body of a woman was found abandoned in a house.
The decomposed body

discovered on Wednesday, police said, adding they are looking for her
boyfriend as a person of interest in the murder.
The body was locked
in the house and had been strangled with a bed sheet that was found around the
neck.
A note believed to
have been written and left by the suspect was found in the room.
The note indicated
the said assailant was also ready to die and follow the woman.
Police are
investigating its authenticity even as they search for the man for grilling for
more information.
The body was moved
to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
And two suspects were separately lynched by mobs in Mombasa and Kakamega counties.

separately of being thieves, police said adding they are investigating them.
