ODM has stepped up its international outreach, with Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi leading a high-level delegation to Moscow for a consultative meeting with United Russia Party (URP).
URP, Russia’s ruling political party, hosted ODM at its headquarters in Moscow.
ODM delegation was received by Andrey Klimov, a senior figure within the Russian party and Deputy Chairperson of the Federal Council’s Committee on Foreign Relations.
Klimov is also a member of the Supreme Council of the URP, signalling the high-level nature of the engagement.
The two parties held extensive bilateral discussions focused on strengthening cooperation through what ODM terms “political party diplomacy.”
The goal, according to officials present, is to deepen institutional ties between ODM and URP, exchange ideas on political organisation, and explore avenues for collaboration in governance and party development.
During the meeting, Osotsi delivered a goodwill message from ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga to the leadership of URP.
“Osotsi used the opportunity to present a message of goodwill from the Party Leader Raila Odinga, to the leadership of the URP party,” read a statement released by ODM after the meeting.
The meeting was part of a broader diplomatic program organised on the sidelines of an official visit by Kenyan legislators to Russia.
Also in attendance were prominent ODM members, including Senator Oburu Odinga—who serves as a Trustee of the party and Senator for Siaya County—Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, who is the ODM National Vice Chairman, and Paul Matuyia, Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Kitengela Ward.
In its statement, ODM emphasised that such international linkages are part of a broader strategic vision to enhance Kenya’s democratic growth through partnerships and political learning.
The timing of the meeting is particularly significant. ODM has already announced that it will hold its much-anticipated National Delegates Convention (NDC) in October 2025.
The NDC will be a defining moment for the party as it prepares for the 2027 General Elections.
