Mystery surrounds the killing of two villagers in a remote village of Endau, Kitui County.

The village lies at the border of Kitui and Tana River Counties.

A third man was shot and seriously wounded in the July 14 attack, police said.

Police and locals in Malalani village said the victims were sleeping in their manyatta in a group of about 20 charcoal burners when the gang struck at about 4 am.

The assailants, about ten, were armed with AK-47 rifles and arrows when they struck, the survivors told police.

The victims were identified as Kisangau Usui, 30 and Maneno Musili, 25.

The attackers also robbed them of a solar panel, two mobile phones and one radio.

The motive is yet to be established, police said and added they collected seven spent cartridges from the scene.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Elsewhere in Navakholo Sub-County, Kakamega County, a seven-year-old boy was found murdered in an incident.

His body was dropped at the family compound on Monday morning by the assailant. The motive is yet to be established.

Police said they are looking for the father of the child for questioning over the murder.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

Elsewhere, two suspects were separately killed by mobs in the growing such incidents.

The first incident was reported in the Kijipwa area, Kilifi County, where a man aged 21 was found killed over claims he was a thief.

The locals told police the deceased was a habitual thief, hence the move to lynch him.

He is also said to be an ex-convict.

His body was found on the roadside that leads to the Msumarini shopping centre.

In Mukuyuni, Bungoma County, a 49-year-old man was stoned to death by a mob in an incident at his home.

He was accused of stealing a chicken in the area, prompting the mob’s ire.

The bodies were moved to the mortuaries pending autopsy. Police discourage mob lynching and term the trend criminal.

The police want suspects to surrender to authorities for processing.
